Strictly Soul is back on the live stage in support of our SA talent!
This month we are hosting the talented Ricky Tyler with support from the Saison Sundays crew.
Ricky Tyler
Ricky Tyler is a dynamic South African artist known for his captivating blend of R&B, Afro-pop, and Amapiano. Raised in Johannesburg by his single mother, Ricky first made waves at PLITZ New York Fashion Week before launching his music career with the hit single "Swerve." His rise to fame continued with tracks like "Deja Vu" and "Thirty K’s," solidifying his place in the industry.
In 2020, Ricky joined Universal Music Group Africa and released his debut album, *Small World*, which has amassed over two million streams. His song "Everything" was featured on the *Coming 2 America* soundtrack, followed by a performance on NPR’s Tiny Desk concert.
Building on his success, Ricky collaborated with Nairobi's Karun on "Video Games" and capped off the year with sold-out shows in Kenya. His sophomore album, *Happy 2 Be Alive* (2024), features standout tracks like "Sunday Drive" with Tellaman and "Another Episode" featuring Bien from Sauti Sol. The album dives into themes of mental health, personal growth, and relationships, showcasing Ricky's evolving sound.
With hits like "Hold On" and "No More Discos" featuring Tyson Sybateli, Ricky Tyler continues to push boundaries, creating music that resonates deeply with his audience. *Happy 2 Be Alive* is now streaming on all platforms.
Saison Sundays
Saison Sundays was born from the growth of talented self-expression through alternative R&B. It began as a backyard gathering for close friends in 2022. Almost immediately, it evolved into one of Johannesburg’s premier event spaces of alternative R&B talent and became a live performance event space giving up-and-coming R&B and Alternative performers a residency for their creativity on a semi-consistent basis. Tom Saison will be performing alongside a collective of artists that are part of this family to deliver an eclectic musical journey.
